Construction work is underway at the Gryfia Marine Repair Shipyard in Szczecin to build the infrastructure required for the installation and operation of a new floating dock. Work is currently being carried out to drive piles for the new sheet pile wall, alongside demolition work to prepare the site for the next stages of the project.
The scope of the project includes the extension and reconstruction of the Gdynia Quay over a section approximately 96 metres long. On the next section, approximately 220 metres long, the existing quay is to be converted into the Gdynia perimeter of the dock basin, without the possibility of mooring vessels. Approximately 12 metres of the Gdańsk Quay will also be rebuilt.
As part of the project, a new dock pier with an area of approximately 1,240 m² will be constructed, along with mooring dolphins designed to secure the new dock. Dredging works will also be carried out to increase the dock’s draught, local seabed stabilisation will be undertaken, and a directional drilling operation will be conducted for technical infrastructure.
The project also requires a wide range of demolition works. These include the removal of the existing docking pier, the demolition of the single-storey building of the former ferry terminal, situated at the corner of the Gdynia and Gdańsk Quays, and the dismantling of four existing mooring dolphins made of box piles. Plans also include the demolition of two tubular dolphins with a diameter of 1,600 mm and a length of approximately 26 metres.
The new hydrotechnical infrastructure will enable the preparation of a suitably shaped and secured dock basin, as well as the creation of the conditions necessary for the safe installation, mooring and operation of the new floating dock.
