On 22 August 2023, we were granted planning permission for the construction of an Installation Terminal in Świnoujście, designed to support offshore wind farms. This is the first project of its kind in Poland, representing a key element in the development of the country’s offshore wind sector and accelerating Poland’s energy transition.
The future terminal will enable the transhipment, storage and preparation of components used in the construction of offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea. The quays and specially designed storage yards will handle, amongst other things, turbine nacelles, blades up to 115 m long, towers weighing around 900 t, cabling and other wind turbine components.
The scope of the investment includes the extension of Quay No. I over a length of approximately 250 m and Quay No. II over a length of approximately 245 m. Plans also include the construction of a new Quay No. III, approximately 293 m long. In the first phase, Quay No. III will form the boundary of the terminal’s reclaimed area, which may in future be extended and converted into a further transhipment quay.
The quay structures have been designed to withstand the significant loads resulting from the transhipment and storage of large-scale offshore wind turbine components. The permissible load for Quay No. I is 50 kN/m², whilst that for Quay No. II is 250 kN/m². In designated heavy-duty berths, loads of up to 500 kN/m² can be accommodated.
A technical seabed elevation of −12.50 m EV has been adopted for the planned quays, enabling the handling of specialised transport and installation vessels used in the construction of offshore wind farms.
The construction of the Installation Terminal in Świnoujście will provide Poland with the port facilities necessary for offshore wind projects, enabling logistics, transhipment and storage operations to be carried out directly on the Polish coast.
