WUPROHYD will design the documentation for the protective breakwater for the FSRU terminal at the Port of Gdańsk

Our office will prepare comprehensive design documentation for the construction of a protective breakwater at the Port of Gdańsk. The future hydrotechnical structure will be one of the key elements of the infrastructure ensuring the safe operation of the berth designated for the FSRU vessel.

The scope of the project will include, amongst other things, the following elements:

  • land development plan,
  • architectural and structural design,
  • technical design,
  • detailed design,
  • technical specifications for the execution and acceptance of construction works,
  • bill of quantities and project cost estimate.

The documentation will form the basis for obtaining the required administrative decisions and the subsequent implementation of the project.

An FSRU, or Floating Storage and Regasification Unit, is a floating vessel designed to receive and store liquefied natural gas (LNG), and subsequently regasify it, i.e. convert it back into a gaseous state. Once this process is complete, the gas can be fed into the national gas network. The unit enables the supply of the raw material by sea without the need to construct a full-scale onshore regasification terminal.

The proposed breakwater will protect the FSRU berth from the direct impact of wave action on the moored vessel’s operations. Ensuring sufficiently calm waters is particularly important whilst the FSRU is berthed and during the handling of LNG supply vessels. The structure will improve safety during manoeuvring, mooring and transhipment operations, and will also enhance the operational reliability of the entire terminal under variable hydro-meteorological conditions.

The implementation of this project will be a key element in the development of energy and port infrastructure in Gdańsk, helping to increase the capacity for importing natural gas by sea and to diversify the sources of its supply to Poland.
